Many of these wins came about during the 2024 Emmy Awards on Monday, Jan. 15, as several shows filmed within Westchester borders secured a total of 56 Emmy nominations and nine wins during the ceremony.
Additionally, many of these productions also won at the Golden Globes and received honors from the Critics Choice Association and Screen Actors, Producers, and Directors Guilds.
These winning productions included:
- HBO's "Succession," which won a total of six Emmy awards including Outstanding Drama and Best Writing in Drama; four Golden Globes, including Best Drama; and three Critic's Choice Awards. Several episodes were filmed in Westchester, including an episode filmed at Westchester County Airport;
- Amazon Prime's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," which won two Emmy Awards for period makeup and cinematography. The last season was filmed at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle;
- Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building," which won an Emmy for outstanding production design and a Critic's Choice Award for acting, which went to Meryl Streep. The show was filmed at the Westchester County Records Center;
- FX's "The Bear," which won a Creative Arts Emmy for sound editing work. This award was won by Peekskill's Alchemy Post Sound, a post-production sound studio.
More productions filmed in Westchester that received award nominations included:
- Netflix's "The Watcher," filmed at a private home and country club in Rye;
- CBS's "FBI: Most Wanted," which was filmed throughout Westchester;
- HBO's "The Other Two," which was filmed at Haven Studios NY in Mount Vernon;
- HBO's "White House Plumbers," which was filmed at the Michaelian Building in White Plains, Purchase College, Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, and the Belvedere Estate in Tarrytown;
- Peacock's "Poker Face," which was filmed at the former IBM campus in Somers;
- HBO's "The Gilded Age," which was filmed throughout the county, including at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown, Glenview Mansion/Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, Manhattanville College in Harrison, Jacob Purdy House in White Plains, and Pace University in Pleasantville;
- Netflix's "Maestro," which was filmed in Rye;
- Apple TV+'s "The Crowded Room," which was filmed at Untermyer Park and Gardens in Yonkers and downtown Hastings-on-Hudson.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said that the film industry brings many benefits to the county.
"The film industry's impact on Westchester is undeniable. A driving force for investment, film production is a $1.1 billion sector in Westchester," Latimer said, adding, "It showcases our assets, creates jobs, supports local vendors, and attracts audiences here and around the world.”
Much of the reason the industry has grown in the county is thanks to Westchester County Tourism & Film, which provides location guidance, offers technical visits, and helps with the permitting process, officials said.
“FBI: Most Wanted” location manager Mike Hartel praised the department, saying, "They understand our needs and pave the way for successful filming. Westchester provides a wide range of looks and plenty of space to park trucks and equipment, set up complicated shoots, and establish base camps."
“The Gilded Age” director Michael Engler also had good things to say about the county: "We love shooting in Westchester. When we go up there, everyone enjoys it and stays for a few days... People are extremely friendly and gracious…creating a sense of community.”
